On All High Energy Ignitions: GM HEI, PerTronix, [etc,?], the full 12 VDC is required. I disconnected and taped off the 20 Yellow wire that comes from the Iconel resistor wire that's sheathed in a white/purple/orange asbestos cover exiting the Bulkhead Connector. A separate wire from the Ign Unfused tap in the fuse block feeds my HEIs.
That's not the issue...
My buddy Dennis put a P/III on the 427 in his '72 F250. His Tach went screwy. The PerTronix tech rep on the phone told him to get a P/II if he really wanted a Tach.
