Width was the one advantage the original Bronco had. Early Jeeps and Scouts were narrow too, but the K5 Brazer/Jimmy had so many other advantages over those other SUV's it wasn't funny. Remember the original Bronco never sold that well, and was replaced in 1978 by the full size Bronce which was a Ford clone of the K5. It was very popular.
