On a side note I was using synthetic 10w30 on 79 truck and recently went back to conventional oil and does not seem to leak as much oil.

Right, it's like the manufacturers keep cutting cost to the detriment of their product. My 50+ year old chevy has metal rods bracing the thick metal fender parts that hang in the wind while today's 100k dollar SUVs are regularly seen with flapping body panels as they plow through the wind.
My 2007 BMW has direct injection. Those injectors are really loud with the tick, tick tick. The engine cover has a very thick layer of sound insulation just above these injectors. The thing sounds like it's completely clapped out when the cover is removed.
