My daily-driven '77 C10 has the control arms 3.25" off the ground, and has not been a problem at all for anything, but you need to be aware of driving a lowered truck (on the road six years now: sun, rain, shine, snow; it's my daily).

I -have- ripped the header collector flanges four times now. When these headers are done, I'll get Chevelle headers that don't hang so low.

My '61 has the control arms 3.75" off the ground, but it's not on the road yet, and also is pancaked 2".

4" is a good rule-of-thumb.
