Personally I would recommend buying a new piece of metal for this. Metal has grains like wood, and when you bend with the grain you are liable to crack it. Especially metal that was molded 30 years ago.
If you do it, put a piece of scrap metal on top of all you bends to make the bend radius bigger and lower the chance of cracks.
