Lol, I don't know why it keeps surprising me when I see other people having the same problems / decisions I have, at least I know I'm not alone! That's exactly what I had to do to my rockers, and the same thing on the cab corner/rocker junction. I welded mine up, no filler on it yet or any finish work of any sort, but I really like the way it looks, glad I went that direction.
