Really, I have had no contact with tilt columns. If I said they were 'glossy' it was from a cue I read above. Tilt columns could be USAAF WWII surplus with OD interior and zinc chromate engine bay color, for all I know.
Apology for any confusion my ignorance of the subject caused.
