Yeah, these motors were not built for speed. The E version produced 152 hp at 3800 rpm and 280 foot pounds at 1600. They are slow, but with dual exhaust and a bigger carb you'd be in for a pleasant surprise on how it will wake up. These engines where about the most overbuilt and stout boat anchors you'll ever see. lol The 305E weighed in at well over 800 pounds! They are known for lasting up to 250,000 easily. In fact, a guy I know has one with 450,000 on it. Here's a site where you can get Lot's of info on these.

I think after some reading you'll enjoy the engine a little more. haha Coming down from a hi-perf v8 to a torque monster v6 is a tough thing. But if your ever not happy with the 305 you can always get a 478.
Here's a video of mine doing an acceleration test. This was with the stock single exhaust and a 4 barrel mod. Have yet to do it with the new dual exhaust.
