I used mine like that for many years because I wasn't comfortable with how close the distributor was to the firewall. The only thing I noticed was a slight weight shift towards the front. Also, my drive shaft yoke was engaging the 350 transmission by only 1-1/2 inches.

On my next rebuild I'm thinking of moving the mounts back about 1 to 1-1/2 inch and redrilling the bolt holes. That will still give me plenty of clearance on dis and shift the weight more to the back.
