If your sender is good now, I'd remove it from your tank, remove the gas junk, and add a pick up tube and call it good. You can run a 3/8" on the VE and be fine. Make sure you clean your old tank well and get all that old gas out. On the square burb I did, we replaced the tank and sender for a diesel model because that is what the owner wanted.
