Got my bed done!!!!!
Got the effect I wanted with the wood. It's a very dark color, but you can still see the grain, not only in the clear itself, but in sunlight, you can see through the black.
The last 2 pics almost show it as black, but it's not.
The clear is a satin clear to tie in with the roof.
I made mods to the bed wood, so I had to drill all new holes in the cross sills.
I probably have about 60 hours in it all including the widening of the tubs.
Got all my holes drilled along with the gas filler hole
Here, I am dying the wood
Resanded the wood
Stained the wood
Another pic of the stain
Started clearing with satin clear - ended up spraying about 4 coats of clear on it.
Owning a bodyshop sure helped spraying the clear. Only took about 5 minutes to do all the wood
You can see the widened tubs here. I also moved the boards around. The 2 skinnier boards are now on the outside. I did this to minimize the width I had to widen the tubs so I would fall on a board. LOT's of holes I had to drill.
Done! Whew, the fuel cap hole fell perfectly in line!
I had relocated the fuel filler on the fuel tank so it would be a little more toward the center. Normally on the CPP tanks, it's about 5 inches to the left. Since I relocated the wood, the old filler location landed right on a bed strip
Since these pics were taken, I lifted the tubs up and cut the strips so they ended at the tub flanges instead of going under it.
Looks better, plus it makes the flanges flatter against the wood.
Also, redid the bumper to bed fillers so they are now smooth (no holes)
Now onto the tailgate
