It adds support to the top of the bed side to keep it from sagging. It looks to me like your is mounted solid. I don't think you"ll have any issues. There is also a small mount between the top of the fender and the bottom of the bed side (where it rolls), but with you having a long bed, you have an extra support there from the factory (visible in your 3rd pic just behind the tire over the fender). I beleive it was just added to the short beds since they didn't have this extra support on the bedside.
