I didn't get the extra backing (I had installed sound and thermal barrier on the floor of my cab). The width of the carpet in the footwell area from kick panel to kick panel was perfect in my case. I had to glue a couple of small pieces of what I trimmed from the width at the door sills in the little divot area at the floor/kick panel transition between the door opening and vents.

Did you buy it with the mass backing? Says it's 40 mil thick, I believe thats .040 thousandths? almost 3/32" 1.1 millimeter? doesnt sound like much but I dont know.
