Oh man, I hope I didn't cause this notion!! I just figured you had a reason and my OCD just needed that answer lol. It looks good man, and I pretty much figured you wanted the wood look.
However, I love woodwork, and there is another option if you tear it down. You can buy the thin sheets of wood veneer to cover the base and it will look like wood of your choice. knots and all
Stuff is cheap enough to justify it too.
This is another option if your just going to coat it with some sort of clear or poly afterwards again.
