The act of the field being whipped around by the pump, pressurized by the pump, and passing through the box all heat the fluid up. Add in under engine bay which is hot attached to a very warm engine.
It helps the seals last longer, and the pump work more evenly since the fluid won't thin out technically by heating up.
I am not sure when it becomes nesacary, but brand F was quite into them in the 3/4 ton and above rating.
