The V-6 originally came in 305, 351, and 401 cubic inch displacements. In 1962, GMC introduced the 478 which had a longer stroke than the others. They stayed with those 4 sizes until 1973 when they used the 478 crank in the 351 and 401, which created the 379 and 432. I have never heard of a 479 V-6.
