The reason for reinforcing the firewall is that the clutch master cylinder mounts to the firewall. It won't matter whether you have a hydraulic release bearing or an external slave cylinder. I personally don't know that your truck requires reinforcement, but I know that some cars do. I think it would be a good idea.
