I put a 2004r into my C20 about 4 years ago and I love it. I've also had good luck with the 700r4 but the 2004r made it so I didn't have to change my drive shaft length since it was so close to the length of the TH400 it was replacing.

I think both transmissions can be built to be extremely robust and reliable nowadays.
