Rob, I did a bunch of work on a 48 Ford COE a few years back. I used a side winder steering box from CEN-PEN Speed Shop (cenpen.com) to get the steering in. I also used a Flaming river shorty steering column which I think was about 12" long. It was a real pain to get the steering in but it works great. If you want I can dig up some pictures. COEs seem like the steering is a pain because of how far forward the cab is. Everything looks great so far. I would love to build one some day.
