I purchased a removable console w/ cupholders for my truck. Works great. Problem is muh dawg loves to ride with my wife and me thus necessitating the removal of same. I saw somewhere that a cupholder is made to stick in the ash tray,... but it was too rich for my tastes.

So sticking true to my cheapskate form, I decided to try making one. The first try would have been great if my dyslexia and general stupidity hadn't kicked in. But as they say, the third time is the charm and I did it!! It fits and works well and I can still access the radio controls and the heat/ A/C controls. It's really a simple design, easily placed into the ash tray opening and then removed and stored just as easily. And I just used scrap wood lying around, so only cost(s) are the drink holders. I've enclosed a couple pix with the unit still unpainted/unfinished.
