Best way to protect it is insurance. The next best is to keep it parked inside in a locked location.
Kill switches, pulling fuses, etc. are all predicated on the thief trying to drive off with the vehicle. That rarely happens anymore, simply because modern cars are WAY less susceptible to hotwiring. People just pull up with a tow truck, yank it on to the flatbed or lift the tires, and drive off. Much less suspicious-looking than breaking in and hotwiring.
Guns are also predicated on you being there when it happens, and in most cases, you simply being there, gun or not, will deter someone looking for an easy theft. Besides, as much as I love my truck, I'm not killing someone over it.
That's why I carry good insurance.
