I have always changed mine at around 3,000 miles on my old trucks. On my new vehicles, I wait until it's closer to 5,000 miles. I guess it would depend on how you drive it.

I think he means the initial oil change, since the engine has been re-built. I agree with him also. I have always changed the oil after the first 250 or so miles.
