They break pretty easy. Mine was broke when I got my truck and I broke the one I was replacing it with.
What I did was to drill through the rivets and clean through the face plate. Then I installed stainless steel screws with nuts on the backside.
You can see the screw heads on the front but by being stainless steel they blend in really well.
