I don't have a picture of a floor shifter, but it is not a top-loaded trans. Pretty much any transmission that you swap in will require some sort of modification for your cover.

It uses a slip yoke on the transmission end of the driveshaft. The picture you posted shows the part of the slip yoke that attaches to the u joints.

If you're looking for something that has the shifter more on top and in the middle, an s10 5 speed would be a good option behind the 292
