Wondered the exact same thing when I first saw it Jud. It could just be
brand new un-faded 514 red. For ref, the pic is from the Winter 72 Chevy Camper magazine, so would be hard to imagine they repainted one, but I agree, it does look darker than 514 to me too! No factory dark reds in 71 or 72.
