Depends a lot on your location as to what the prices run..around here you can pick up a 5.3 with 4l60e trans setup complete for around a grand. Most start out around 295hp...add a good cam and the hp jumps up pretty quickly..
LS is a term used to loosely describe most all the engines built by chevy nowadays.. anything built after 99 would be a good donor..my truck has a lq9 6.0 in it thats a 2002 model..puts out around 345hp..
