I doubt it'll be the case for her. With ganglions at finger joints, especially where the finger meets the palm, it's extremely close to the digital nerve, which is why it's super difficult to remove without taking a little nerve tissue or severing nerve tissue in the process.
If you're not squeamish, here's the surgery I had except my doctor cut the incision along the fold of the skin to hide it instead of perpendicular to it like you see in this video:

You'll see around the 1m30s point, part of the procedure the doctor is careful to move the digital nerve out of the way to prevent damage. I don't believe there's similar concern working on the knee.
