Radiator Support Mounting Issue

Rebuild of 66 Short Bed in process with alignment problems of new (aftermarket radiator support) with both front inner fenders. New support does not mount flush against the inner fenders due to mounting fins on each inner fender being too long - causing approx. 1/2" gap between new radiator support and both right and left inner fender. I removed the mounting fins from the two inner fenders thinking I could remount them on the inner fenders, thus producing no gap between the inner fenders and the new support. However, instead of a gap I now have a radiator support which is cantered - support is not standing straight - has a lean towards the cab. Although the support has no gap where it now meets the inner fenders, it is not sitting straight (vertically). Background: When I first noticed the gap, I researched to determine if a molding, like the front molding used between the inner fenders and the cab, was needed. I could not find where such molding was used or needed. No, I did not take notice of how the old radiator support fit to the inner fenders. I do know there was no gap. Also, the old radiator support did not have the two cables that "X" in the middle of the support for stability - without the "X" cables, the old support may have had enough flex to appear flush with the liner fenders?.... Anyone have any experience with same issue(s)? What is the proper fit of support to inner fenders? Many thanks for any assistance. DonT
