The valve covers are pretty close to the firewall yes. We had to clearance just a little due to moving the mounts back about an inch. The PO custom fabbed the BB mounts on to the 73-87 style front k-member.
.. should help keep it from plowing in the corners.

It might get aluminum heads at some point too.. . Still an option. Fuel injection, etc. Well see how it pans out.

Very interested to see what direction you go with this buddy. Can't wait to see how the bed works out for you as I'll be ordering mine in hopefully in October/November. I myself prefer bigger wheels and think a combo like the gray c-5 Coys with a 20x12 in the rear with 29x15x20 Mickey Thompson s/r would look awesome.
