I noticed replacements have these wings. Not sure about the originals, but if they had wings they were cut. Near as I can tell, I agree with you - you'll see it otherwise, at least on top. In my novice opinion, cut em.

Per my truck your clips are in the right direction (studs to the right), though I'm not sure it matters................But what do you think of your stud placement? I have some of the same clips, and yeah, they either don't or they're a pickle to slide all the way on. The original clips seem to be a better fit, and the studs slide all the way in.
