Re: Rear Bumper Options

The step bumpers that wrap around to the wheel well are known as Bartons bumpers. That was the best known or first,so the name stuck. They are a western thing.I never saw them on eastern trucks. But,all those I`ve seen were just the same as the factory bumper offered through`71.There were other`s built with large step surfaces for camper trucks.I had one on my`71 Camper rig that slid out for when the camper was mounted.Mine didn`t wrap around and I guess it wouldn`t have been able to slide if it did.Maybe that company or another one made a fixed version the wraped around.I`m sure I`ve seen what you`ve described over the years.Truck body companies built step bumpers,as well as many regional step bumper companies were around back them.I`m sure they were produced, but many bumpers we`ve seen were fabricated or hired-out by the owner.Back then,a truck wasn`t required to have a back bumper and alot of stubborn old farts weren`t gonna pay no extry for no dang bumper.
Here`s a Barton`s bumper:

This is the only rear shot of my camper I have on the computer. Can you see it?
