Of course you can have your cake and eat it too. I'm slowly bringing my truck to a quiet, clean and stock DD status. Interior and exterior are pretty much done. Drivetrain done. The only things left to do as of now is convert to disc brakes and like you, ditch the headers. Everything else is just where she needs to be.

And on the lockup issue, that's an easy fix requiring some wiring and a couple valve body plugs. Unfortunately you'll have to drop the trans pan and lay on your back under the valve body to do it... but that's a good time to change the trans fluid.
