There are no emmisions testing on any diesels anywhere yet as far as I know but if you were to take a
newer GAS engine vehicle that is in the system as a GAS engine truck and you put a diesel engine in it...you are still subject to the laws of a gas engine until you have the vehicle re-certified somehow.
Now most states dont test any vehicles that are over 25 or so years so it wont matter. I think California might test older ones
