Starters

1970 GMC BB TH400. C2500 if it matters.

It's been sitting for a good many years. Decided I'd clean up the electrical connections on the starter while I was down that way. Ran into a few issues.

1 - All 3 wires near the starter should be R&Red due to dry rot.
Batt cable is a no brainer. The yellow wire will not be replaced as I have HEI. Anyone know the gauge of the purple wire? Looks like 14ga to me but??? Just for grins, if I was replacing the yellow wire, what gauge?

2 - All 3 connections ended up rotating the stud of the solenoid.
Time for a new solenoid or would you just snug them back down?

3 - Following the purple/yellow wire back to the firewall was covered in tape. Aint no easy way to get tape in many areas along the path.
Suggestions appreciated.

Thanks much...Don.
