I've posted in the thread but just had a thought. That truck could have easily been owned by my father. He was exactly that kind of guy. Modify what you want with what you have on hand. Looks? Who cares. Future? This thing will be scrap iron eventually so who cares?

I still remember him being so happy after selling our 1971 short box GMC 4x4 because the rear end went out in it in less than a month on the new owner. This was about 1989 and I was heartbroken when he sold it. And then thinking it was great all over a rear differential. I'd have everything but the transmission apart on my 1971 C10 so putting a new diff in would not have been a stretch even though I was still only 19-20.
