Re: Rebuilding ol' whitey

Couple of updates. I was able to get the oil pan dropped and turns out I have a 2 bolt main. Kinda sucks but it's ok. It'll work for now. Got the oil pan reinstalled. Oil changed as planned. We decided to try our hand at polishing aluminum while I had the shroud off of the bottom of the tranny. Maybe its called a torque converter cover? Any way, pics to prove it!

My buddy getting bolts started on the pan.

Torque converter looks almost new. I was told by the PO that he had the tranny rebuilt.

The bottom end.

The oil pan was surprisingly clean for a 78. I'm guessing the motor has had some work.

The the oil pan cleaned up and back in. No leaks so far!!!

Here were sanding the tranny shroud w/ 1000 grit and then 1500 grit.

Here is after a few hours of sanding and polishing. Also, a pic of the inside as the inside looks like what the outside started as.

Here is the part number to the shroud in case anyone needs it.

Also, the shroud has a 7 cast on the bottom... Anyone know what this means?
