If your vent is blocked, a locking dipstick will make it leak somewhere else.

However, to answer your original question, it's really simple. It's held in by a bracket under one of the bellhousing bolts on the passenger side. The only connection to the transmission is an o-ring about an inch from the end of the tube. Make sure you put a little transmission fluid on the o-ring before you install the tube so it doesn't bind.
