Ditto, that's how I do it. Wrap masking tape around the pipe until it perfectly meets on the other end and cut along the tape edge with an angle grinder. Or if you have a tubing cutter you can use that too.
My homemade exhaust systems usually come out better than a professional job because I put more care and effort into the details.
