If I recall my 84 had a deep shroud. Lots of room from the engine forward. Likely room enough for a cam swap with the rad out. Maybe hood latch would need moved.
Measure it. You might be ok.
I’ve always avoided engine removal for simple jobs like cam swaps or rear main seal jobs.
Too much wasted time and money.
