This would be nice for people who didn't want to run an ammeter.

I'm pretty sure the stock ammeter is wired using a shunt. Unlike a regular installation of an ammeter, not all of the vehicle current runs through the meter. It may not be incorporated in the harness, but you could add it. Here's a quicky video on youtube that explains it. Also Google "wiring alternator with shunt"
