Re: Engine Swap Info

The guys pretty well hit it.

If you have a manual trans and are going to run the same trans the actual engine swap is pretty simple once you have the pieces you need to hook the V8 to the trans.

As they said;
Cast iron V8 truck bellhousing from the years they suggested.

V8 flywheel

You can reuse the clutch parts if they are good or it is a great time to replace them if they aren't in the best shape.

V8 starter plus a pushbutton for the dash to engage it as the stomp starter won't hook up.

Decide what you are going to do for front mounts ahead of time. Either stock 58 mounts for the V8 or a tube crossmember or side mount kit

The carb linkage will take some tinkering but isn't rocket science.

The Exhaust will have to be taken care of either by you doing it or taking it to the muffler shop you deal with or a bit of each.

Guys used to do these swaps on a long day of work quite often back years ago. Drive it in with the six on the morning, drive it out with the V8 in the evening. I'd expect it to take a bit longer but by having the pieces that you "have to have" there and ready to go such as bellhousing and flywheel makes things a lot simpler.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
