Here's a possibility.

Since yours is a 72 maybe the thicker pink wire was for the possibility of an HEI distributor. Never know what these engineers projected on these vehicles. The recommended guage for the HEI is 12 guage.

The small pink wire (resistive) is for your points distributor. That wire looks like it's probably 14 guage.
