Getting ready to pull the motor and the automatic transmission on my '72 Jimmy.

Is it best to try to pull the motor and transmission together, or is it better to pull motor first, then the transmission.

I wasn't planning to remove the transfer case. Do I need to pull that too, or does the transmission release from the transfer case easily?
