Ah ha, I found an alternate picture in which you can see how the garden hose trick is utilized on the right side speaker.
As you can see, since the 6 1/2" wouldn't fit down in there like it's supposed to (because I had bought the wrong component set; should have been smaller), I used the garden hose to sort of lift it up a little bit, so it sits on the outer part of the enclosure ring.
