I do a lot of road bike riding and on that day I cut thru a gated community on the way home. As I came up to the exit gate there was a car going out so I followed it thru the gate. I had no idea there was an anti-tailgating high speed swing arm! It dropped on my head and knocked me out, (shattered my helmet) and also hit me hard enough that the shock down my spine caused the compression fracture. I was going 16 mph + and after losing consciousness I crashed face first into a rock wall. Bad day!

Got an ambulance ride and spent that week in the hospital, followed by a bunch of PT and a back brace for a month. I'm healing well but still have to watch my back. All in all, I was obviously really lucky. A little in either direction for that bar and I either would be gone or crippled. No more exit gates! Good news is that somehow the bike is fine and I got back out for an hour this past weekend and I'm back at work on the truck.
