It might make it easier for new members to interact with other members if automatic thread subscriptions and PM email notifications were enabled by default.
The problem is, after that huge spam fest a year ago many providers throw site mail directly to spam. Yall never get the mail at all. We obviously are working hard on our end to prove we are not spam... but.. everyone here can do a few things to help

1. do not click this is spam when you get mail from the site.
2. add the site to your allowed email list
3. check your spam file. If you have site mail in there, mark it as not junk.

I know years ago we had to change those email settings due to server issues. I will send this to Josh as it may not be a problem now. Thanks for the suggestions.
