I had broken the 12 bolt again and wanted not just better durability but the better wheel selection that the 8 on 6.5" brought.

That and I found a 3/4 ton sub cheap. My 8 lug swap with new wheels and tires was done for $1500 about 12 years ago.

I found another 3/4 ton sub even cheaper and it's axles are underneath my kids Jimmy project. His truck at least needed a new axle because the 12 bolt housing was broken from a wreck.

3.73 geared sub axles were less than buying just one ring and pinion to change gear in the stock 12bolt/Dana 44.
