On my 72 my turbo is really close to the hvac box. It hasn't even discolored it and I've towed quite a bit with the truck. I was worried about it too but I don't think it's an issue. But, maybe the heat could effect the coolness of the A/C? I couldn't tell yo on that because I haven't finished my ac.
