Re: 1942 Vin Location on Chassis

Does your uncle have the title? I did not know the frames were stamped that early. As I understand vin numbers did not appear until 1947. Before that they were serial numbers on the cab tag and matched somewhat by the engine stamping code near the distributor.

I did not find any such stamping on my 46 3/4 ton but maybe I just did not look hard enough. If you have a good title s/n you can remake a cab tag.

On my 42 which I placed on a 1990 S10 frame, I did stamp the frame to match the 42 title s/n.

Here in Ohio it is possible to get a re-issued like year title if per court order the state highway patrol can determine s/n or vin including frame stampings with no state or national conflicts.

Someone else will know. If not go to the Stovebolt forum.
