Have you looked at the GM Canyon or Colorado trucks? I have not yet noticed a build on these chassis , so maybe it's a no go.These may be an option with a more suitable track width etc.? Just more food for thought. I do not know if they have the limitations Russ has pointed out with the other donors you've considered. I used the first generation 2 wheel drive Dakota which I think worked out well but that is irrelevant considering the desire for 4 wheel drive.
